Sustainable Orcas Island (SOI) meets monthly on the last Wednesday at the Orcas Island Library. The agenda for the April 28, meeting—from 5:30 to 7 p.m. includes:
- San Juan County as a non-GMO community—update
- SOI’s various seed projects, aquaponics, SOI Wiki, hoop houses, etc
- The Library’s edible/native/low-maintenance landscaping project—trees are coming!
- Sustainable Living Fair on Saturday, May 1 and tours on May 2
The Orcas Island Sustainable Living Fair on May 1 will take place on the Village Green in Eastsound from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with exhibitors, music, speakers, and the first day of the Farmers’ Market.
Tours to be offered on Sunday, May 2, include
- The Creatures of Indian Island, by Russel Barsh and Madrona Murphy (just show up)
- Yellow Island Wildflowers, by Shearwater Kayaks Adventures (signup through Shearwater, 376-4699)
- Bullocks’ Permaculture Homestead Tour (signups at the Orcas Island Library)
- Turtleback Mountain Hike, by Kathleen Foley (signups through Kathleen Foley, 378-2461)
- Geology of Sucia, by Shearwater Kayak Adventures (not kayaking all the way from Orcas Island! Signups through Shearwater, 376-4699)
