Deputies on Orcas Island are asking for the public’s help in identifying a subject who approached two pre-teen girls at the Village Green offering them candy and money. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon about 3:45 p.m.

The subject, described as a dark-skinned Hispanic male in his 30s, 5-7 to 5-10 with medium build, was wearing a black hat, described as a “Greek fisherman’s cap.” The man was driving a smaller black square-shaped sedan. The girls had seen the subject in the Village Stop a few minutes before the encounter in the park.

To their credit, the girls ran away from the man to a nearby business for safety and called their parents. The man was gone before deputies arrived. The investigation is continuing.
