A Tango Soirée will be the highlight of a series of tango dance classes conducted by Sara Thomsen next weekend.
An evening of tapas and dancing at Rose’s Café Friday, July 31 will feature dancing by Thomsen and company – a group of tango dancers from the Seattle area — and songs by Ruth Di Vicenzo, tango dancer and vocalist from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“Bring your dance shoes!” says event organizer Sara Thomsen, who grew up on Orcas and has studied tango for over a dozen years, the last three years while living part-time in Argentina. “The overall idea for the evening is to bring a Buenos Aires-type of experience to dance on Orcas. There will be a little performance, live music and social dancing.”
Cost for the Friday evening event, from 8 to 11 p.m., is $25 per person. Tickets should be purchased in advance, as limited space available, at Rose’s Café, 376-4292.
A series of tango dance classes will take place at the Orcas Center Black Box on three consecutive evenings:
• Thursday, July 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. teaching basic tango for intimate spaces;
• Friday, July 31 from 6-7:30 p.m., teaching turns in tango (giros);
• Saturday, Aug. 1 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., classic tango elements
Cost for the dance lessons is $10 per class or $25 for three classes.
Thomsen has taught several tango classes on Orcas over the last two years.
