If you happen to miss the delicious Student Chef Competition happening today from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the School Home Ec Room behind the Cafeteria, don’t despair… you can still make the dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

Ten elementary students from first through fifth grades prepared their dishes this morning for the judges. Awards will be announced at 11:30 a.m. and then at noon, the upper grades, five students from 7th through 11th grades will compete, starting at noon.

Dishes prepared are; A to Z Carnitas, Picadillo, Mexican meatballs, Home made empanadas and refried beans, roast beef burritos, chili rellenos, chile and lime steak tacos, chilaquiles, quinoa taco salad, Mexican egg cups and chicken enchiladas. And of course beans!

The public is welcome to the Chef competition which offers free samples, with donations gladly accepted, and to the sit-down dinner served in the cafeteria starting at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 10. All proceeds benefit the Farm to Cafeteria program.

The competition is sponsored by Rose’s Bakery Cafe, Mijitas, the Orcas Hotel and the Orcas Village Store.
