The Third [intlink id=”orcas-storyfest-enthralls-all-ages-next-week” type=”post”]Orcas Storyfest[/intlink], sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Eth-Noh-Tech, began with “Wisdom Tales” at the Senior Center Tuesday afternoon.
Storytellers Eshu Bumpus and Olga Loya joined Nancy Wang and Robert Kukichi-Yngojo of Eth-Noh-Tec to entertain an audience of nearly 100, old and young with tales of cunning and heroism.
Loya reminded the audience that courage comes from “reminding yourself of the impossible things you did.” Bumpus’ tale included a song sung by children who “became so frightened, they said, ‘We better keep Singing.”
Eth-Noh-Tec concluded their creation story with with the phrase: “We wonder where we all come from, we wonder who we will become.”
Doug Banner from the Bellingham Story Guild told a tale of his grandfather confiding in him, when as a little boy, Banner was caught wearing a treasured family heirloom: “Never go to war.”
The next Storyfest event is “Pajama Tales” at the public library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5. Orcas Storyfest concludes with “The World of Stories” at the Orcas Center on Saturday, August 8.
