— from Chantelle Hildreth —

Stormy.1Stormy Hildreth along with Grace McCune and special guest Martin Lund will be performing a concert to benefit Salmonberry School in their campaign to raise the funds required to purchase the school grounds. The concert will be held at Random Howse on Thursday, August 13.

Stormy Hildreth is a Salmonberry Alumni who spent 9 years at Salmonberry School, graduating last year with the sixth grade class of 2014.

“I will be singing at Random Howse to support the school I love. Salmonberry School is like a second home to me. It is a place where I felt nurtured and loved while learning more than I ever could have imagined and having the time of my life at the same time. Salmonberry school, Paul Freedman and the incredible teachers at Salmonberry school gave me the opportunity to grow in so many ways. It is because of my experiences at Salmonberry School that I have grown as not only a life-long learner and student but also as a community-minded citizen, young performer and musician”.

At this exciting and critical time, Salmonberry School is on the verge of securing a sustainable future as an important part of the island’s educational landscape by becoming the last school on the island to own its own buildings and grounds. Through a tremendous island-wide outpouring of support and generosity, Salmonberry’s capital campaign to raise the funds required to buy its site is coming close to becoming a reality.

This developmental moment in the life of this little preschool through grade six school is indeed historic. Salmonberry does not have the backing of an endowment, or any affiliated church or organization. This school is truly a grassroots project that was created by islanders for islanders. There has been 14 years of personal sacrifice, incredible volunteerism and a willingness by a sequence of community members to do whatever it takes to see this educational alternative survive. Having grown through its childhood and adolescence, Salmonberry School is about to enter its next stage of life, and take the reins for its own continued development. Those who are curious to learn more about the school or to help with a donation, contact the school by email at info@salmonberryschool.org or visit www.salmonberryschool.org.

Tickets for this event will be available at Windermere Real Estate & Darvill’s Bookstore. Tickets are $75 and include salad, choice of Entrée, dessert, soda, juices, sparkling water, coffee and tea. A full no-host bar is also available. Doors and bar open at 6pm. Dinner will be served promptly at 6:30.
