Steps supports children & families on Orcas, and we’re looking for the right person to join us

||| FROM HEATHER TENORE for STEPS |||

For more than 40 years, Steps has partnered with families to meet the developmental needs of young children on Whidbey Island. We began serving families in the San Juan Islands in 2019 and in Anacortes in 2023, providing in-home therapy, developmental education, and family support for infants and toddlers.
Our providers travel throughout the islands because we believe young children learn best in the places where they live, play, and spend time with the people who know them best. We bring support directly into their homes and everyday routines.
Earlier this year, Steps was honored to participate in the Orcas Island Community Foundation’s spring campaign, and we are grateful to everyone who supported our work with Orcas families. Thank you OICF!
One area of growing need is within our Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health program. Our therapists and family support specialists partner with caregivers to better understand what children may be communicating through their behaviors, strengthen family relationships, and build practical strategies that help children feel safe, connected, and successful in their everyday lives.
As the need for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health services continues to grow, Steps is looking for a licensed mental health professional to join our multidisciplinary team serving families in the San Juan Islands and surrounding communities. Two of our providers already call Orcas Island home, allowing us to build lasting relationships with local families.
We are seeking a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Psychologist, or another qualified Washington State licensed mental health professional. Experience working with infants and young children is preferred but not required.
