BELLINGHAM – Rick Larsen released the following statement today following initial primary election returns:

“I could not be more grateful for the support our campaign received tonight. While there are still many more votes to be counted – and we must count every vote – tonight’s results reflect the work, values, and shared commitment of so many supporters and volunteers across Northwest Washington. I want to extend to each and every one of you my personal note of thanks.

“From those who stood with us in Bellingham and Mount Vernon in passionate support of a woman’s right to choose after the leaked Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade to those who rallied with us in Everett for new gun violence prevention laws after the tragedy in Uvalde. From those at the small aviation parts factories who shared how the Aviation Manufacturing Jobs Protection Program allowed them to survive to the pandemic to the residents in Lynden, Blaine, Edmonds, and other areas new to the Second Congressional District who took time out of their busy days to talk with us on their doorsteps and share their thoughts on an economy that works for them. It is only with your grassroots energy and unity that our campaign can advance past the primary and onto the general election, and it is only with your energy and unity that we can prevail in November as well.

“And, of course, I want to recognize and thank my dedicated and hardworking staff for keeping this campaign organized and on track every step of the way.

“As these past few weeks have shown, there is still plenty that Congress must accomplish and can accomplish for working families. Tonight brings us one step closer to continuing our important work to grow local family wage jobs, fight climate change, lower costs and expand access to healthcare, prevent gun violence, and protect reproductive freedom.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to represent our region in Congress — one that I will never take for granted. Between now and November, I will work just as tirelessly on the campaign trail to earn the vote of every resident of Northwest Washington as I am working on your behalf in Washington, D.C.”
