The public is invited to come to the Doe Bay Café for the winter literary series. On Sunday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m., the Hedgebrook Writers Showcase with Linda Clifton and Madeline Ostrander will be featured.

Madeline is a writer and editor, who brings the sensibilities of an environmental activist and ecologist to bear on the stories she tells about people, landscape, and the possibility for change.   Linda Clifton holds a Ph.D. in medieval literature.  An experienced teacher and independent editor, Clifton founded Crab Creek Review and was a guest editor for Hedgebrook Journal.  They will also be hosting writer’s workshops on the same afternoon, which are open to all.

The two creative writing workshops will be held in Otter Lodge.  The first is from 10 a.m. to Noon:  “A Poetry Walkabout,” facilitated by Linda Clifton.  The 33 waterfront acres of Doe Bay provide room for a walkabout and inspiration.  In this two-hour participatory workshop writers will explore in journals, walk about together to observe the moment, come back to share words and craft them into poems.

The second workshop  “Writing the Radical Personal Essay,” facilitated by Madeline Ostrander, will be held from 2-4 p.m.  In this workshop, discussions will focus on how stories can function both as political pieces and as art.  Reservations are recommended and donations are appreciated!  Call 360-376-2291 for more information about the workshop
