On August 25, 2009, the San Juan County Council will hold a public hearing on a resolution calling for the formation of a new park and recreation district on Orcas Island. If the Council so authorizes, the proposition to form the new district will appear on the general election ballot of November 3, 2009.
The election of five commissioners for the new district will also be on the November ballot. To solicit candidates for those positions, a special three day filing period will be held on August 26, 27, and 28. Candidates may submit their filings in person, by mail, by fax, or by email, to the Elections Office at 55 Second Street in Friday Harbor from 8 am through 4:30 pm on the three filing days. If faxed or emailed, the original signed declaration must also be sent, and must be received in the Elections Office by September 4.
It is strongly recommended that candidates submit with their filings a photograph and a 150-word statement for the November Voters’ Pamphlet. All photographs and candidate statements must be received by 4:30 pm on Friday, August 28.
