||| FROM INDIVISIBLE SAN JUAN ISLANDS |||

Presidents Day began as George Washington’s Birthday, a federal holiday created in the 1800s to honor the first president. Washington didn’t make much of his own birthday, unlike the current president’s demand for a military parade for his birthday last June. Washington was known to work through his birthday. After his death, Americans turned him into a national symbol. While today, many include Lincoln and other honorable presidents in this day of celebration, most of us, if not all, will not be celebrating 45 and 47.

We, the people, get to hold onto our patriotic norms and history while rejecting the current administration’s perversion of our country for its own agenda and gains.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 17, at Brickworks from 5:30pm-7pm, we welcome Professor Garrett Epps, a nationally renowned Constitutional scholar, law professor, podcaster, and journalist. Prof. Epps will discuss the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and the Executive Branch – Where are We Today? We encourage you to join a thoughtful discussion following Professor Epps’ presentation. Space is limited; no RSVP required. Admission is free; however, a $10 donation at the door is suggested to support these events.

“The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” Bad Bunny’s incredible message from the Super Bowl halftime show. On Valentine’s Day, we protested, For the Love of Democracy. Here’s a photo:) ~100 community members strong showed up to support our values and rights!

After hovering around the $10 billion mark for years, ICE’s budget suddenly benefited from a meteoric spike.” (NPR) (This is what the current Government Shutdown is addressing.)
