— from Arden Ainley for Skagit Valley College —

Earlier today, March 9, Skagit Valley College was notified that the Snohomish County Health District is investigating a presumptive positive test for the COVID-19 virus involving a resident of the Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood. Nine SVC students and two faculty in our Certified Nursing Assistant program have been participating in clinical instruction at this facility since February 5. At this time, no students or faculty members have been tested for the COVID-19 virus. However, these individuals have participated in classes on the Mount Vernon Campus within the last week.

In an abundance of caution and to limit further exposure to the SVC Community, the College is eliminating large gatherings and making the following changes to College operations at all College sites:

  • There will be no classes Tuesday, March 10;
  • Classes will resume on Wednesday, March 11 via remote delivery methods and will continue in this manner through the end of Winter Quarter;
  • Winter Quarter Finals also will be administered via remote delivery methods;
  • All College locations will be closed to students and the general public beginning at midnight Monday, March 9 through Sunday, March 15;
  • ALL College sites will be cleaned and disinfected during the closure;
  • As part of our COVID-19 response, the College has instituted its Cleaning for Prevention Plan.
