For the past 22 years Orcas youth ages 8-15 have been introduced to the sport of sailing through this popular program. Sail Orcas is happy to present this summer’s program which focuses on teaching sailing skills in a safe, fun environment. With a variety of boats including Vanguard Prams, FJs, Lasers, Optis, and Bics, the program can accommodate beginners and experienced sailors wanting to expand their skills. We offer the perfect venue on the protected waters of Westsound on Orcas Island. This is a great place for the kids due to its limited boat traffic so the waves and chop are minimal.

Instruction: Sail Orcas is pleased to announce that we have arranged for professional US Sailing Certified instructor Annie Jo Sorensen for our students. Annie brings a wealth of experience and a true joy for sail. US Sailing Instructor Certification

What to Bring: Students are encouraged to bring their own properly-sized life jacket, however we can provide them if needed. Life Jackets are required to be worn on board all Sail Orcas boats. Shoes or sturdy sandals are also required. Running barefooted on the docks will guarantee splinters. We recommend water bottles, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, snack, towel, swim suit and a warm layer. Make up classes for cancellations due to weather are on Friday.

Program Fees and Terms: The 2015 course fees are $110 per 4-day class. Discounts for booking multiple sessions will be available for 2015. Sail Orcas will consider financial aid requests for up to two sessions. Reservations and payments are made online through the web site only at https://sailorcas.org/Jr_sailing_registration_form.php. Payment must be made to reserve your class.

Meeting Place: Meet at the Orcas Island Yacht Club Pavilion located north of the West Sound Marina on West Sound. Morning classes run 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and afternoon classes are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sail Orcas is a volunteer-run, non-profit public charity that exists to share the joy of sailing. In addition to providing adult and youth lessons we offer affordable boat access to members, and we sponsor and lead Orcas’ successful youth and teen racing teams that compete at a regional and national level.
