In what might be the last opportunity for the public to weigh in on the proposed Prune Alley redevelopment project, the EPRC has scheduled a special “virtual” meeting on Thursday, June 25, from 3 – 5pm. It is certainly short notice, and delaying the project is not technically off the table, but for a range of reasons, from sunk costs to planning and scheduling pressures, the county and Public Works are seeking expedited final approval.
(It should be noted that, following a presentation at the EPRC’s February meeting, plans for an extended public feedback process were upended by the pandemic, putting unexpected pressure on the current scramble for input. The EPRC’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting takes place next Thursday, July 2. Its agenda may be influenced by the results of this week’s meeting.)
During the Zoom call, the EPRC and Public Works will present the main development options, from lighting and intersections to parking and landscaping, along with pros and cons and visual depictions. While the project has been in motion for some time (see last week’s article), much is at stake and the conveners of the meeting are hoping for strong public participation.
To help prepare, there are two other documents for those who want a richer picture of the thinking and policies that have been driving the project:
- 2018 – 2019 “Complete Streets” Program Annual Report (A summary of principles and ordinances governing countywide road re-development with a project list that includes Prune Alley).
- CRP 021502 Prune Alley Improvements (PDF) (part of a presentation made at an October 2019 Town Hall).

Only 30 minutes for public comments. That’s telling!
wait a minute; this was just posted 11 hrs ago for a “final input” meeting? Is that even legal?
It appears that there will be a final meeting later.
This is way too short in terms of lead time! Why?
Plus these people do not know how to run an online meeting as an Orcas Island district online teacher I do this every day, pleaser ask for help!
these folks can not know how to post an online meeting, I do this everyday as an OISD remote teacher, ask for help
It was a good meeting! “These people” did well!
