A Deputy received an identity theft complaint from a Lopez Island resident. The reporting person stated an unidentified person attempted to activate a credit card using his personal identification information. He was alerted and canceled the credit card request prior to any loss.
16-003844 Animal at Large 11:10:03 06/15/16
A Deputy responded to the Lopez Island School on 06/15/16 regarding an animal at large complaint. The school staff member was concerned for the safety of the elementary students who were scheduled to go outside for a class period. The animal’s owner was located and retrieved the animal. A report was completed.
16-003846 Animal at Large 11:26:27 06/15/16
Deputies were called about an animal at large near the town of Friday Harbor. The dog was found, and the owner was given a warning letter for having his dog at large.
16-003848 Abandoned Vehicle 12:53:17 06/15/16
Deputies were dispatched to an abandoned vehicle in Friday Harbor on private property. The responding party was informed on the actions that could be taken.

This office received a referral from CPS in reference to a 12 year old girl walking with a known past felon (male) on San Juan Island. Contact was made with the family. The male is a long time friend of the family, who has moved off island but was visiting for the day.

An Eastsound citizen reported hearing another subject make threats about disturbing an upcoming community event. The subject was identified and contacted. After further investigation it was determined that no one was in danger. Settled by contact.
16-003858 Assault – Aggravated 15:56:39 06/15/16
An Eastsound man reported some juveniles trespassing on his property who responded by throwing rocks at him when they were asked to leave.
16-003861 Boating Problem 17:32:40 06/15/16
Deputies on marine patrol were dispatched to a vessel flying a distress flag in Griffin Bay near Dinner Island. The vessel had run out of fuel, and was towed back to Jackson’s Beach.
16-003864 Domestic Dispute or Assault 20:20:31 06/15/16
A Lopez Island deputy was sent to a possible domestic disturbance. The involved parties had separated prior to arrival. Investigation indicated the dispute was verbal only, that no crime had occurred. A report was taken.

16-003873 Traffic Stop 09:13:58 06/16/16
A Deputy stopped a driver in the 100 block of Fisherman Bay Road for speeding on and subsequently issued him a criminal citation for failing to have an ignition interlock device, which violated a restriction on his driver’s license. He was released with a promise to appear at a hearing in Friday Harbor.

A Deputy was dispatched to a hit and run accident that occurred in the 10 blk of Killabrew Lake Road. No suspect or vehicle information. A report was taken.

A Deputy received an attempted fraud complaint from a Lopez Island resident. The victim stated an unidentified male left a threatening voice message, which directed her to call back to avoid federal criminal prosecution. The call back number was found to be out of service. A report was completed.
16-003914 Domestic Dispute or Assault 18:34:50 06/17/16
Deputies responded to a Friday Harbor residence reference a domestic violence incident. Upon arrival we found an item broken during the dispute and took the juvenile responsible into custody. Juvenile services responded and took over the investigation at the Sheriffs Office.

An Orcas Deputy was hailed by the janitor at the Village Green about vandalism in the bathroom. Evidence was collected and a report was taken.

A Lopez Island woman reported the theft of a bicycle from outside a Lopez Island business. A report was taken.
16-003945 Citizen Assist 16:26:45 06/18/16
A Lopez Island deputy assisted a woman in gaining access to her vehicle after the keys were accidentally locked inside. No further action was necessary.
16-003953 Burglary,NonRes 19:41:05 06/18/16
Lopez Island deputies responded to a burglary not in progress call at a former business. On arrival deputies found that damage had been done to the grounds, and the interior of the building. The investigation is ongoing.

A customer at Roche Harbor made some disturbing remarks to a worker there. The subject was back at the resort on 06-18 and again made disturbing remarks to an employee. They were able to get a license plate, but it is to a rental car. Deputies are continuing to watch for the person.
16-003966 Boating Problem 13:51:17 06/19/16
A Lopez Island deputy investigated a report of a personal watercraft being operated in Hunter Bay. The vessel was contacted at the dock and the operator warned for a number of violations including the PWC prohibition in San Juan County waters.

Deputies were sent to Shipyard Cove to recover property that had been dumped in the dumpster. Property was located and recovered and arrangements made to rerun it to the owners. Investigation continues.
16-003982 Domestic Dispute or Assault 21:18:44 06/19/16
SJC Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault on Orcas Island. Further investigation revealed the male half had assaulted the female half. The male was arrested and booked into jail.

A Lopez Island deputy was called to assist the fire department with the investigation of a fire in Shark Reef County Park. An illegal unattended campfire had spread into the adjoining area. The fire remains under investigation.

A Deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a burglary. This case is still under investigation.

An Orcas resident, who had been out of town, found her house had been entered and items taken. The investigation continues.

After responding to a neighboring business about a burglary in Friday Harbor, Deputies asked the business if they were experiencing similar problems. Deputies found that there were similar actions against them as well. Statements
and a report were taken.

A Lopez Island deputy was sent to the ferry landing regarding a third party report of a traffic offense. The possible suspect vehicle was loading onto the departing ferry as the deputy arrived. No action was taken as the caller had not witnessed the offense.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious boat off of Blakely Island. The boat was contacted and no suspicious activity was discovered.

A Lopez deputy responded to a report of fraud. A Lopez resident was coerced into paying a large amount of money to a person posing as a federal agent over the phone. A report was taken to be forwarded to proper federal authorities.

A Lopez resident reported suspicious voicemails from a person claiming to be a federal magistrate.

Sheriff Deputies responded to a reported altercation in a home. Further investigation revealed a single male occupant of the Orcas home was experiencing a mental break. The subject was taken into protective custody to receive a mental health evaluation and was transported via EMS transport.

An Orcas Island woman reported theft from a property driveway. No known suspects or leads at this time.

A deputy responded to a harassment in Friday Harbor. The neighbors were angry about an incident involving their dog. The complainants said the neighbors came to their house five times yelling and cursing at them. The neighbors were told to not contact them anymore. Ongoing investigation.

A Lopez deputy was requested to check on a Lopez resident at the request of off-island family member. The Lopez resident was found in good health.

A Deputy spoke to an Eastsound resident who received a fraudulent IRS call. There was no monetary loss. An informational report was taken.

A Deputy responded to a possible child abuse call in Friday Harbor. The investigation showed that there was no evidence of child abuse. This report was sent to CPS for their information.

A Deputy responded to an Eastsound business in regards to a suspicious person tampering with the sharps containers in two bathrooms. The possible suspect was trespassed from the business. A report was taken.
