An Orcas Island Deputy responded to a welfare check near the downtown Eastsound area. The Deputy learned that the subject was a local male with a mental health disorder. The Deputy attempted to help the male who subsequently ran away yelling. The incident was documented.

A Lopez Deputy responded to a report of missing oyster bags from the beach.

An Orcas Island Deputy responded to an unwanted person near the downtown Eastsound area. The Deputy learned that the subject was dealing with a mental health disorder and scared the store employees. The subject was subsequently trespassed from the property.

A Lopez Deputy responded a report of an online fraudster attempting to impersonate a property owner and list a property as “for sale”. The property owner and local real estate companies were alerted.

An Orcas Island Deputy responded to an agency needing assistance with locating a wanted fugitive possibly in the San Juan Islands. Based on the intelligence provided the Deputy did not locate the wanted fugitive. The incident was documented.

An elderly individual experiencing cognitive issues walked away from their home on a cold day wearing only pajamas. They were quickly located at a neighbors house.

A Deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a hit and run. The victim reported that their parked car was hit. Currently there are no suspects.

An Orcas Island Deputy responded to a threats incident near West Sound. The Deputy learned that the incident was a civil matter and provided resources to the reporting party. The incident was documented.

Deputies on Orcas Island were dispatched to a citizen assist. While contacting the reporting party, Deputies noticed an individual with outstanding warrant. The individual was arrested and transported to jail.

26-000296 Wanted Person 09:11:40 01/15/26
An Orcas Island Deputy with the assistance of a community member apprehended a wanted fugitive in Eastsound. The fugitive resisted arrest, and a courageous citizen helped the Deputy place the fugitive in custody. The fugitive received additional charges and subsequently booked into jail.

San Juan County Sheriff’s Office took possession of found property. A power tool and a hand tool were turned in. The owner was not identified. The items were taken into evidence.

San Juan County Deputies executed a court-ordered eviction of a local resident. The resident refused to cooperate and the Deputies were forced to arrest the resident for trespassing 2nd degree and obstruction of law enforcement to remove him from the property.

Lopez Deputies were notified of a child custody situation, which was determined to currently be a civil matter. Both parties will need to work with the courts.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 17

Orcas Island Deputies responded to an unwanted person in the Rosario area. The Deputies learned of a wanted fugitive hiding in the foothills of Moran State Park. The Deputies apprehended the wanted fugitive and subsequently the fugitive was taken into custody.

A Deputy on Orcas Island responded to a found property report. The item was logged into the evidence room.

San Juan Island Deputies responded to a local business for a report of theft that occurred on 1/16/2026. A local resident was arrested for Theft 3rd Degree and Minor in Possession of Alcohol.

A Deputy on Orcas Island responded to a dog bite complaint. The dog and owner were not identified. A report was authored and forwarded to the San Juan County Health Department.

Orcas Island Deputies and Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a single vehicle collision on Mt. Constitution Rd. The vehicle was on its side and no one operating the vehicle was found. The vehicle was taken for evidence and the incident was documented.

A Lopez Deputy responded to a non-reportable collision. Information was exchanged, no report.

A Lopez resident requested a welfare check. The request was declined as the situation is civil in nature, and a law enforcement response would not be appropriate.

A Lopez resident called regarding mental health challenges with a family member. They were referred to Compass Health as the proper responding agency.

A Deputy on Orcas Island responded to a blocking disabled vehicle. The vehicle was moved safely off the roadway. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for no valid operator’s license.
