A part-time Lopez Island property owner reported someone possibly squatting on a piece of land. The responding deputy searched the area but found no evidence.

A fraud was reported from a business to an Orcas deputy. The investigation continues.

A visitor to Orcas Island was bitten on the hand by a dog at the dog park. The dog was current on its vaccinations, and no serious injury occurred. The visitor requested no further investigation and just wanted the incident documented.

A Deputy was dispatched to a theft that occurred over two weeks ago in Friday Harbor. An investigation was conducted and a report written.

A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched for a possible mental subject who grabbed the shoulder of a child, scaring him. The deputy contacted the subject and warned her not to have physical contact with strangers.

A Deputy received a found wallet from a Lopez Island visitor. The owner of wallet was contacted and arrangements for him to retrieve it were made. A report was completed.

Lopez Island deputies responded to a residence on an open 9-1-1 call. Upon arrival, the homeowner denied making any calls to 911 or otherwise. They suspect a phone system malfunction and will follow up with Century Link.

A Deputy stopped a motorist and issued him a ticket after he saw him driving while not wearing his seatbelt in the 2200 block of Fisherman Bay Road.

A Deputy stopped a motorist for speeding near the Lopez Island School. The Deputy determined the driver had no driver’s license and no car insurance. He issued the driver a ticket for speeding, no vehicle insurance and for not having a valid driver’s license.

A Deputy responded to the 1700 block of Ferry Road for a dog at large complaint. The reporting person stated she saw the dog running loose in the road. It was learned the dog owner was off island. The dog was returned to the dog-sitter, who stated she was unaware the dog had left the property.

Deputies were called to the area of Kings Market on Spring Street to investigate
an RV parked on the sidewalk. The vehicle was issued a Notice of infraction.

A SJC Sheriff Deputy responded to a reported Burglary of a private Storage Building on Orcas Island. Approximately $1500 dollars worth of items had been taken. One item included a firearm. The case is under further investigation.

A Decatur Island man reported that his dog had been injured, possibly shot with a BB or pellet gun. The wound to the dog is not life-threatening, but did require veterinary care. The case is under investigation.

A Deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a shoplift. Currently this case is still under investigation and the suspect is not known at this time.
16-004799 Animal at Large 17:19:21 07/11/16
A Deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an animal at large. The Deputy took custody of the two dogs that were found and returned them to the owner.

A citizen turned in a pack left at the pullout on West Side Rd near Limekiln Park. No owner appeared for over 24 hours, so the item was logged into evidence as found property. No claim was filed by the finder. It will be held pending contact with the owner, and disposed of according to law after 80 days.

A SJC Sheriff Deputy conducted a traffic stop for expired registration. The vehicle had a current tab on an expired plate. The tab belonged to a different vehicle. The vehicle was not registered to the driver. The vehicle was towed. The driver received infractions for the violations.

A Friday Harbor resident contacted a Lopez Island deputy regarding an issue involving a transaction on Lopez. The reporting party was asked to contact the seller to try to resolve the issue, as the matter is entirely civil. No further action was taken.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of alleged maltreatment of a child in Eastsound. Child Protective Service (CPS) was notified and responded. Through the course of the CPS investigation, they found the report unfounded.

The reporting deputy was dispatched to the Friday Harbor area in reference to Illegal Camping. The reporting deputy arrived and made contact with the suspect. After several attempts, the suspect refused to leave the area. The suspect was arrested for Obstructing Law Enforcement and booked.
