Thursday, November 28, 4:30 pm, Odd Fellows Hall:

The Community Thanksgiving potluck at Odd Fellows Hall is a popular and long-standing tradition. And everyone is welcome! This is a great community event, and an opportunity to spend time with fellow islanders in honor of the holiday that invites us to be thankful. And what can be better to be thankful for than living on Orcas?

Organizer Bill Gincig particularly likes the social aspect of hanging around after enjoying the meal in order to catch up with old friends, or to meet new friends.

Odd Fellows supplies the turkeys and the tableware; everyone else brings their beverage of choice and a dish to share.

So how do they make sure that everyone doesn’t bring the same dish? There’s a very scientific system that’s been developed, and it’s based on the first letter of your last name. If your last name begins with:

A – G  Bring your favorite side dish (mashed potatoes, yams, veggies, etc.);

H – R  Your assignment is salad or bread/rolls;

S – Z  You get to bring the dessert.

Feel free, however, to bring your island-, or world-famous, specialty dish instead of the suggested one if you prefer. No good food will be turned away!
