LULU_USEWilliam Kentridge, who made his Met directorial debut in 2010 with an innovative and dazzling staging of Shostakovich’s The Nose, returns to the company with a new production of Lulu, Alban Berg’s tragedy of a sexually irresistible woman who destroys the lives of everyone around her. The beguiling Lulu from the Met: Live in HD streams to Orcas Center on Sunday, November 22 at 1:00 pm.

Acclaimed visual artist and director William Kentridge applies his unique theatrical vision to Alban Berg’s modernist 20th century masterpiece about a notorious femme fatale who shatters lives, including her own. The story is filled with the psychosexual politics of German Expressionism. Kentridge, the South African-born artist is known for combining drawing, animation, filmmaking, and collage. As one of the world’s most preeminent visual artists, his work has been the subject of major gallery shows and museum retrospectives around the world.

Charismatic German soprano Marlis Petersen, who has sung the tour-de-force title role to great acclaim around the world, stars as the femme fatale in this confounding story of a strange, alluring young woman, a street waif turned dancer and breezily amoral temptress. Susan Graham, who has sung over 20 different roles at the Met, adds a new role to her company repertory as the Countess Geschwitz, one of Lulu’s most devoted admirers.
