Tuesday, June 19 – 20, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Orcas Senior Center
— from Sara Boyle for Orcas Senior Center —
Could you give first aid in an urgent situation? Could you perform CPR or assist others in performing CPR if necessary? Do you need a refresher? Come and learn how to perform or assist others in life-saving techniques.
On June 19 and 20, Orcas Island Fire and Rescues Lieutenant, Alan Stameisen, will teach techniques to help someone in their time of need or during an emergency. This First Aid/CPR class is open to people of all ages and abilities.
The class will be held over two days at the Orcas Senior Center from 10 AM to 3 PM each day. Lunch is included. Additionally, “POLST” forms will be available if you’d like to complete one. Staff will be on hand to answer your questions. POLST stands for Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment. These orders outline the kind of treatment you would prefer or do not want.
The two-part class is a FREE offering to the community. You must attend both days to complete the course. Space is limited, so please call the Senior Center (360.376.2677) early to reserve your place in the class. Thank you, Tom Eversole, Hearts and Hands Program Director

Leif — OIFR’s Lieutenant and EMT Alan Stameisen is providing the training, so why wouldn’t it be certified by the AHA? He provides this fabulous training to islanders several times per year, and we receive our cards. I’m confused.
