The Orcas Senior Center’s new Home Maintenance & Repair pilot program has recently launched, and we are in need of qualified contractors to make it a success. As I’m sure you are aware, contractors and tradespeople are in short supply on Orcas Island, and those that are here are busy on new construction projects. That leaves our population of seniors and adults with disabilities without a place to turn for small repairs. It was due to this need that Orcas Senior Center decided to create this program, with the goal to help those folks source contractors to complete their projects and allow them to “age well on Orcas”.
We are in the process of compiling a list of fully licensed contractors that are willing to take on a small portion of the load. To not overburden any one contractor with numerous service requests, we are asking contractors to commit one day a month of their busy schedule to help fulfill these needed requests. We are not asking for any cut to your regular hourly rate.
