– from Libby Garcia, Boathouse Cider Works and Vicki O’Keefe, Orcas Senior Center —

Boathouse Cider Works is teaming up with Orcas Senior Center to create a special cider batch using local seniors’ apples.

One dollar of each bottle of Senior Cider sold will go to benefit the Meals on Wheels program at the Orcas Senior Center, delivering hot meals to hundreds of seniors each month on Orcas Island.

Here’s how to stay off ladders, keep your yard clean, and fund good meals for our seniors, all at once! Members of the Orcas Senior Center may email Libby@boathouseciderworks.com to schedule an appointment. Libby Garcia will initially meet with the members to discuss preferences for orchard work. The members will contact her again later when the apples are ready to be picked. Boathouse Cider Works will then dispatch their trained pickers once the apples ripen or start to fall. Please allow a few days’ notice to get your trees on the picking schedule.

From these pooled apples, Boathouse Cider Works will create a special heirloom batch called Senior Cider and will donate one dollar per bottle to Orcas Senior Center to fund Meals on Wheels. The Senior Cider should be ready in time for Christmas gifting.

Besides apples, Boathouse Cider Works also needs prune plums, mulberries, elderberries, Asian pears, and crab apples. Cheers and happy end of summer!
