OLYMPIA – Sen. Liz Lovelett (D-Anacortes) was unanimously selected by her peers in the Senate Democratic Caucus to chair the newly formed Senate Local Government, Land Use & Tribal Affairs Committee in the 2023 legislative session.
“I’m honored to assume this new position,” said Lovelett. “Since I began public service, I have been proud to prioritize collaboration between all levels of government on the issues most pressing to our communities, and I look forward to continuing that work as a committee chair.”
The committee was created following reorganization of Senate committees on Dec. 1. Lovelett will remain vice chair of the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee, and continue to lead the Ferry Legislator Caucus in the Senate Transportation Committee.
“From action to address the climate crisis, to smart land-use policies, to intentional collaboration with our tribal and local government partners, I look forward to the exciting and crucial work facing our committee this session,” Lovelett said.
The entire Senate is scheduled to vote to confirm all committee positions on the first day of the 2023 legislative session on Jan. 9.
