Hello Fellow Garden Friends,

We invite you to join us as we kick off another year in the Orcas Island Garden Club—where flowers grow, friendships bloom, and our community thrives! Thanks to those of you who have already signed up – over 40 people!

Your membership helps us:

  • Support local community gardens through grants and assistance
  • Share knowledge and inspiration with year-round programs and events
  • Offer engaging ways to stay involved such as book club, adopt-a-garden, and events
  • Celebrate with Monthly Meetings (including zoom), Holiday Events, the Annual Picnic and the beautiful local Garden Tour

Let’s grow, laugh, and make our community even more beautiful—together. We can’t wait to see you again starting in September and for those of our friends who are remote we look forward to seeing you on zoom and whenever you are in town!!!

Here are just a few of the exciting events coming your way in September:

OIGC Book Club features Lyanda Lynn Haupt’s book, Rooted

Thursday, September 4th

5 pm at the Orcas Public Library

Come share your thoughts about this inspirational book. As a special surprise, Lyanda has provided written a personalized message to our garden club to kick off the discussion. Afterwards, shed your shoes and participate in a grounding experience to deepen the learning.

Big Apples Big Business: How Washington Became the Apple State

Friday, September 5th

4 pm at the Orcas Public Library

Sponsored by the Orcas Island Historical Museums, mark your calendars for this free presentation on Washington’s historic apple industry, given by Dr. Amanda Van Lanen. No RSVP needed.

Experiencing IndralayaMonday, September 15th 2 pm at 360 Indralaya RoadCome join the garden club as we learn about Indralaya’s history and their plans to use the OIGC grant funds for their garden project. Experience some of their beautiful and serene property such as the labyrinth. Optionally wander the forest trail with moderate elevation changes so plan accordingly.Click here for more information and RSVP by September 8th

The Forgotten Diversity of Island Apples with Madrona Murphy

Wednesday, September 17th

10 am at the Orcas Center

Botanist, Madrona Murphy will explore the vast diversity of apples that grow (and have grown) on Orcas Island, share information about heritage orchards of Orcas, the tools for growing climate resilient apples and building habitat in your orchard.


Dahlia Day!

Saturday, September 20th

2 – 4 pm at Stefanie’s Garden

Join us for a special event for new and renewing members! Take an awe inspiring tour through Stefanie’s beautiful flower garden with more than 450 different dahlias. Learn growing tips and how to make a hand tied spiral bouquet. Space is limited so please RSVP and tell a friend! No matter the weather, we will enjoy the dahlias – just dress appropriately!
