||| FROM JIM BREDOUW for THE FUNHOUSE COMMONS |||
After the enormous success of last year’s First Annual Gingerbread House contest, The Funhouse Commons and Island Market are bringing it back! Holiday fun for ALL AGES and levels of skill, with cash prizes!
There will be four categories: ADULTS (ages 18+); TEENS (ages 13-17); KIDS (ages 7-12); and LITTLES (ages 6 and under). For ages 17 and under, only the individual entrant is allowed to design and make their creation; however, help with baking and materials prep is permitted.
For the Adult “Open” category, however, it may be the work of either an individual OR a group (family, friends, etc. – no pros please). It may also have – though not required – up to one single battery powered element (lights, turning device, etc.) but, otherwise, the main structure must be 100% edible. (Inedible elements from nature – leaves, twigs, etc. – will be allowed for exterior details.)
There will be three awards given per age group – “Best in Show,” the “Creativity Award” (based on uniqueness and magical thinking), and the “Architect’s Award” (observing complexity and construction skills), for a total of 12 prizes, which will feature cash gifts, all privately donated, from $25 – $500.
Also, Island Market will generously match the top four prizes with donations to local non-profits, to be designated by the four Best in Show winners.
There are no entry fees – but you must register at funhousecommons.org by 6 p.m., Tuesday, November 30 to participate! One entry per person only, though households may submit multiple entries. Once registered, all entries must be dropped off at the Funhouse Commons on Saturday, Dec. 4 between 12-3 p.m.
Winners will be announced the next day and displayed, along with a few honorable mentions, at Island Market from December 5 – 23, including photos of ALL our fantastic participants’ entries!
Go to www.funhousecommons.org for the rules, drop-off and pick-up procedures, prize descriptions, tips, and the registration form – one is required for each entry. We welcome all levels of ability, so help us get into the holiday spirit by making something inspiring for your neighbors to feast their eyes on this festive season!
