If you see a lot of activity on your way to or from the ferry at Map Corner on April 20 th , it’s because several teens from South Seattle are traveling to Orcas Island to work alongside the Orcas Island F.E.A.S.T. youths to build a fence and bench covers for the community pollinator garden located at Map Corner.
Through this project, urban teens will step into their power as mentors to the F.E.A.S.T. participants and teach construction skills they have learned through Sawhorse Revolution programs in Seattle. In addition, urban youth and rural youth will have the opportunity to share their perspectives and bridge the gap between their experiences.
Sawhorse Revolution brings holistic, project-based education in carpentry, design, and construction to diverse Seattle teens. Students work with professional builders to create inspiring structures in their own neighborhoods, fostering character, community, and confidence in the process.
Dowbuilt Construction, a country-wide construction dedicated to educating students in modern construction project, is excited to support the advancement of the Orcas Island Rotary Club as they look to increase their F.E.A.S.T. programming access to more students in the Orcas Island area.
