Ray Williams, “Our Coast Salish bios point to our lineage, that is where the
gift that we carrie, the values that we are come from. My formal names
are Squi qui which comes from my Mother’s Mother, also Sa?atil* from my Fathers’ Father. Squi qui in part refers to our Potlatch which is a way of redistributing wealth. Sa?atil means providing for our people. I live my life becoming this way.” Ray lives in La Connor, WA and is a Swinomish, Tribal Elder, a Seyowen Smokehouse Traditional Spiritual Leader, and a member and former board member of Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous People, fostering “effective partnerships and alliances with like-minded and like-hearted -Walking tenderly on the skin of our common Mother Earth. Being the change we want to see in the world. Working for social, environmental and cultural justice.” Ray inspires us to eco-spiritual activism. (? is the closest mark we have to indicate a sound in Ray’s indigenous language usually written without the period (.).)
Common Ground Choir will be featured, singing from the cantata, Songs for the Earth by Mary Lou Prince (premiered at the 2015 World Parliament of Religions ). Directed by Monica Steele. Still time to join choir this Friday night rehearsal at 7 p.m. in Parish Hall, Eastsound
