SeaDoc Society Lecture Series to start again
If you’re on Orcas, you won’t want to miss any of this year’s Marine Science Lectures, co-presented by YMCA Camp Orkila. Take a moment and get them into your calendar!
October 9: Peter Arcese of the University of British Columbia speaks on the unintended consequences of well meaning actions.
November 13: Nacho Vilchis will present his findings from his two-year project to understand the causes of catastrophic declines in Salish Sea marine birds.
December 11: former USGS Regional Director Leslie Dierauf presents our family night lecture on what to expect from climate change. Free dinner starting at 5:30!
January 8: Gary Davis, the former Chief Ocean Scientist for the National Park Service, will share the story of the history of saving the ocean.
February 12: researcher Erin Ashe will speak on Pacific white-sided dolphins and her recent project to identify and track them with historical and contemporary photographs.
March 12: the incomparable Milton Love from UC Santa Barbara will give you “more than you ever wanted to know” about the fishes of the Salish Sea.
NOTE: The talks are back to Tuesdays now that we’ve found an in-town venue available on Tuesday nights. Except for the December family night at Camp Orkila, they are all at Benson Hall at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Eastsound. Come a little early to enjoy tea and treats.
