Wednesday, October 2, 7 – 8 p.m., Sea View Theatre
— from Justin Cox for SeaDoc Society —
On Wednesday, October 2 head out to the Sea View Theatre for an exploration of the Salish Sea like you’ve never experienced before. The SeaDoc Society and Camp Orkila are back with the second season of Ocean Night, a monthly series of free movies and live events at the Sea View Theatre on the first Wednesday of each month.
The first Ocean Night of this season will be “The Unknown Sea,” which has been honored and selected by the Tacoma, Friday Harbor, and Wild & Scenic film festivals since its release. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event runs from 7-8 p.m. Concessions and bar will be open.
On October 2, the audience will set sail with Captain Kevin Campion and the crew of S/V Orion on a voyage to the heart of the Salish Sea—gliding over and diving under our vibrant ecosystem.
“The expedition investigates the historical, political and ecological factors that went into the recognition of our newest inland sea, said Campion, a member of the SeaDoc Society Board of Directors. “The film creates a sense of place highlighting some of the most iconic species and seascapes of the Salish Sea ecosystem.”
In addition to the film screening, Campion will be in attendance to give a live presentation including incredible bonus footage his team has gathered throughout their maritime adventures—all projected on the theatre screen.
The SeaDoc Society and Camp Orkila are able to make this a free event thanks to donations from Dean and Audrey Stupke, Jim and Kathy Youngren, Barbara Brown, Barbara Bentley, West Sound Marina, The Averna Family (Deer Harbor Charters), Madrona Inn Bar & Grill, Shearwater Kayak Tours, San Juan County Marine Resources Committee, and all who supported SeaDoc Society through the Orcas Island Community Foundation.
