January is School Board Appreciation Month

Ayn moved to the island in 2016 with her husband, novelist Samuel Gailey and their daughter, Gray, who is president of her junior class as OISD and co-founder of the Teen Racial Equity Club.
Ayn is currently a writer and creator of community project, but has a background in education that includes teaching in prisons as well as public and private school. She volunteers her time to our district because she believes in our school staff and students. She is inspired to help OISD reach its extraordinary potential — a potential she believes is greater than average because of our unique community.
Ayn and Sam enjoy mentoring kids with novel-writing. Currently, the favorite part of her week is the two hours she volunteer-teaches in Mrs. Alperin’s film class.
Her favorite ice cream is Latte Chip at Clever Cow.
