— from Scott Lancaster, Chair, Orcas Island School Board of Directors —
As many of you may already know, we are embarking on a search for a new superintendent with the help of Rich Parker of McPherson Jacobson. As a board, we are committed to giving you a voice in this process.
We are striving to attract the best candidates for the position; in order to do so, it is imperative to quickly establish the criteria for the position. To that end, there will be a Community Meeting in the School Library this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will be conducted without the board present.
You may also give feedback through an online anonymous survey. The online survey will remain open until January 15.
Some questions to consider:
- What are the strengths of the Orcas Island School District?
- What challenges/issues do you see ahead for the Orcas Island School District?
- What are the unique qualities that you see in the Orcas Island community?
- What are the characteristics/professional skills that are particularly desirable in a new superintendent?
Please think about these questions and your own, and bring your ideas to the parent and community meeting. We look forward to hearing from you.
