After participating in the All-Orcas Singalong for Sharon Abreu and Michael Hurwicz’ song to mark International Climate Action Day, (4:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall) there’s a tough choice between Carolyn Cruso’s CD Celebration Concert at the Orcas Center, and a Lower Tavern blowout with the band Temporary Price Reduction.

Carolyn’s CD Celebration Concert is  at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box. It will be the last in the ‘Spotlight in the OffCenter’ series.

Carolyn says, “Many of the musicians who played on the CD will be playing with me at this show!  Martin Lund on clarinet, sax and accordion; Jon Hamar on upright and electric bass (you may remember him from this summer’s One World Concert); Willie Thomas on trumpet; Becki Klauss on backup vocals; Lek Thixton on electric guitar and TJ Morris on drums and percussion (you may remember him from the Samite concert last year, he has also played with the Guarneri Underground). I’m very excited about this show and hope you can make it out!”

Tickets for the show are $12 and can be purchased by calling 376-2281 or by going to www.orcascenter.org <https://www.orcascenter.org/>

The new CD ‘Have You Ever’ was recorded here on Orcas Island, produced by Martin Lund, mixed by Gene Nery and graced by many island musicians.  Cover photo and design also by Orcas Islanders Gail Johannes and Andrew Youngren, respectively.  Help us celebrate an Island Creation!

Here are some things people have been saying about the project:

“Consistently beautiful and rich” — Mike Meyer, ‘Mississippi West’ KMHD radio, Portland, OR

“Cruso’s music is beautiful.  Joni Mitchell like…rich, complicated and intelligent.” — Oregon Country Fair Entertainment Camp Crew

Temporary Price Reduction with Al Bentley, Alex Castillo and Jimmy Mudd play at the Lower at 8:30 p.m.

TPR (Temporary Price Reduction) will be holding forth at the Lower Tavern on Saturday, October 24th, at 8:30 p.m.

“Three bucks at the door…. this little event should be a fabulous send-off [for] Madrone Kubovcik, who will be leaving the island soon,” said Bruce Harvie of the Orcas Musicians Grapevine.

Kubovcik says, “Our band is not diva-esque, nor do we have an ecological message filled with love, but some folks into that sorta stuff might be interested in TPR’s last show perhaps to see what’s become of that once loved darling of the Orcas Center, madrone kubovcik…

“or what kind of music Alfred Bentley actually likes to play…

“or what the chef, Alex Castillo does when he’s not in the kitchen at the Ecotopian…

“and of course everybody loves Jimmy Mudd even if he is playing offensive (i.e. loud and obnoxious) music…”
