The Rosario Resort & Spa at the historic Moran Mansion on Orcas Island will be sold to new ownership, the resort announced on its website.
The resort said the new owner plans to renovate the site with a “substantial upgrade,” starting with the historic Moran Mansion.
The marina and grounds will stay open, according to the Rosario Resort, but overnight lodging will close from Feb. 20 until March 31. Following the transition, new reservations will be available starting April 1 but are currently paused.
The Barto family thanks you and the residents of Orcas Island for your patronage and support of the Rosario Resort & Spa through the years,” the resort said in a statement.
The mansion—which has become a museum and does not host guests—will close on Feb. 20 for extensive renovations, but the resort did not specify when the building will reopen.
All reservations during the temporary closure of the lodging buildings will be canceled, according to the resort.
The resort also said if any guests with outstanding reservations on or after April 1 would like to cancel for a refund, Rosario Resort will process the transaction up until Feb. 22. After that date, the resort said, the new operator will handle cancellations.
The new owners have not been announced, but Rosario Resort said it will provide contact information “shortly” for the new operator.
The Moran Mansion was built between 1906 and 1909, according to the museum’s website. The resort said the building is now on the National Historic Register.
Robert Moran, the original owner and namesake, also donated land to create one of Washington’s first State Parks. Moran State Park now borders the resort.
