So why would Rock Island be doing this work during WORKING HOURS??? There are so much of our population needing to work from home. Seems like doing these upgrades OFF-HOURS would accommodate your customers who need to have connectivity. Tell me what I am missing, please.
Thank you, Gretchen.
Like Gretchen, I am dependent on internet and T-Mobile this T-W-Th during business hours. I teach my newly ‘converted’ online classes for German MBA students in Intercultural Behavior and Global Leadership during the only cross-over time between our 9 timezones (8am-11am PDT). Ouch. Our American reputation abroad for reliable planning is, well, not great currently.
If this is planned, why wasn’t there a week’s notice? I could’ve changed these classes. If it’s a security patch or related issue for Rock Island/TMobile, please just communicate that. We who are tethered to the internet and phone for our livelihood can understand and truly support that urgency with short notice.
On the flip side, our community has otherwise done an amazing job of supporting each other-govt, businesses, foundations. RI’s internet infrastructure is critical for the–not to mention the health, safety and sanity of residents during these days. Hopefully, this comes together smoothly.
I echo Grethen’s concerns. At a time when having work is much more difficult than normal, couldn’t this been done at a different time?
I agree with the previous comments. This could have been a little more specific and only states ” the LTE site that serves your area.” Defining the area would have been helpful as well.
I could not agree more with the previous comments. Trying to teach from home (having to teach from home) this could be hugely problematic…I can only hope interruptions will be minimal (but still problematic if they hit mid-lesson) and will result in more consistency of service once done. But I too sure wish it did not conflict with the times I most need internet to make a living in these precarious times.
Hello all. This notice was sent to a small, isolated group of our customers (less than 100). It is not a county wide disruption. Most peoples (of those impacted) services on the LTE network will switch over automatically to another site and they will not see disruptions. In case they do not, we warn them of the potential. This message was not intended for wide distribution.
The crews are performing work that cannot be completed safely in the darkness of night and the interruptions are for short intervals of time. We do realize the dependency that folks have right now on the internet and would not be completing this work unless it were completely necessary.
Hi folks, this notification only went out to a small handfull of customers, and is not island wide.
Attempting to re-post, to be sure the message gets out their.
The message was sent to specific customers (less than 100) about the potential for short periods of disruptions. Most services will automatically switch to other sites and not see disruptions. This message was not intended for mass, or public distribution.
Crews are performing this work during daylight hours due to safety requirements. We know the internet is a MUST right now, and we would not cause disruptions unless it was absolutely needed. The product of this work will be increased performance for our customers.
