— from Debra Lekanoff —

San Juan County Council Rick Hughes announced today his endorsement of Debra Lekanoff for the Washington State House of Representatives 40th District.

“I support Debra and feel she will continue the amazing leadership and support for San Juan County and the 40th that has been Kris Lytton’s legacy on issues ranging from improved ferry service, support of local government, agriculture, economic development, and environmental stewardship. Debra is the right person at the right time for the 40th District.”

Hughes is grounded in the San Juan community with Orcas Island roots dating back nearly 70 years. Serving as part of the San Juan County Council since 2017, Hughes comes from a diverse professional and personal background and utilizes his experience in both strategic vision and tactical implementation to best serve San Juan County community members.
“The San Juan Islands are each a dynamic in their own way and project their sovereignty by governing in a manner that reflects their way of life and values,” said Lekanoff. “I respect the leadership of all the Islands and will work hard to be that progressive leader who rises for the 40th. I am honored to announce the endorsement of County Council Rick Hughes.”

Debra Lekanoff spent the last week on the San Juan Islands, visiting local businesses, talking to voters, and meeting with the wonderful elected leaders currently serving San Juan County.
