— a review by Jean Henigson —

If you like dance, I hope you can go to see “The Roasted Nut” at Orcas Center. It is an absolutely delightful way to start off the holiday season.

Anthony the Dancer has created a highly original and entertaining evening of dance performed by over fifty children and adults. It’s a unique, imaginative production that makes witty references to the traditional Nutcracker ballet, but uses untraditional music, and is full of many wonderful surprises. Anthony’s choreography gives our local adult dancers the opportunity to reveal their superb talent in diverse styles. This show also enables us to enjoy watching the children, whose excitement and joy is infectious as they take part in this wonderful community production.

Tiffany Loney, besides being an outstanding dancer, choreographed all of the children’s dances. She also did a terrific job as the costume designer.

Dane Steck deserves credit for designing and building the fabulous set, a huge clock within a castle, upon which the story centers.

They all deserve a jam-packed audience on both nights for the incredible hard work that went into this show.
