The Orcas Community Resource Center will host several upcoming Orcas Talks Money workshops in October focused on emergency preparedness, winter planning, and financial resilience for community members and small business owners.
The workshops are free and open to the community. No registration is required.
On Wednesday, October 14 at 1:15 p.m., the Resource Center will offer Ready, Set, Prepare! Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults at the Orcas Senior Center. Brendan Cowan will facilitate the workshop and answer questions to help attendees prepare in advance for unexpected events.
In partnership with the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce, the Resource Center will also offer a two-part small business workshop titled First Aid for Small Business: Preparing Your Business and Your Household for Winter on Tuesday, October 13 and Tuesday October 27 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. in the Orcas Library Community Room.
The small business workshop will be co-facilitated by Steve McCaslin of WSU and Elisabeth Britt, Resource Center Financial Literacy Specialist. Participants will practice forecasting winter cash flow, accounting for business expenses and essential household needs, identifying potential shortfalls, and planning for spring reopening costs. The workshop will also explore practical steps business owners can take before cash becomes tight.
