Giving the Long Live the Kings hatchery on Orcas additional funding to increase the number of fry released each year would do more for salmon recovery than all other projects combined in the islands.
As would a new hatchery at Rosario, utilizing all of the water that Rosario uses after ‘spinning’ their hydro plant (i have heard some talk about a possible project there that was very encouraging). Another marvelous use of the money could be to build a fish ladder on Cascade creek to allow fish to get over the first waterfall naturally – no hatchery needed!
