SKAGIT COUNTY, WA – On Tuesday, January 25, Reps. Rick Larsen (WA-02) and Suzan DelBene (WA-01) will hold a press conference with local officials to highlight how historic investments included in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will enable Washington communities to repair local bridges like the Trooper Sean M. O’Connell Jr. Memorial Bridge connecting Mount Vernon and Burlington.

Washington will receive approximately $121 million for Fiscal Year 2022 and $605.1 million over the next five years in formula funding to address the state’s bridge needs, thanks to the infrastructure law. Details on a separate competitive grant program in the bipartisan law designed to support larger bridges, sometimes known as “economically significant bridges,” will be rolled out at a later date.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently launched the Bridge Formula Program – the largest bridge formula program in U.S. history – to give states, Tribes, counties and local governments the ability to repair local bridges that are critical for getting to school and work, moving commerce, and connecting communities. According to a recent report, Washington is home to 416 bridges and more than 5,469 miles of highway in poor condition. The Washington State Department of Transportation recently identified the bridge as eligible for the formula funding.
