— from Rep. Debra Lekanoff —

A big congratulations to Alex Ramel on his newly appointed role as my seatmate in Washington’s State House of Representatives for the 40th Legislative District!

This afternoon, the Whatcom, Skagit, and San Juan Councils and Commissioners held a Special Joint Meeting and voted to appoint Alex Ramel to the 40th Legislative District State House for the 2020 Legislative Session. The appointment fills the position that was vacated by Representative Jeff Morris, who recently retired to pursue new career goals after 23 years of public service.

Alex is an environmental organizer from Bellingham and brings with him a breadth experience in addressing both the need for affordable housing and climate change in the 40th LD. Immediately sworn in after the Commissioners vote, Alex will be joining me in Olympia for the 2020 Legislative Session. I am looking forward to starting this year as the Senior Legislator for our District and working alongside Alex to bring the voices of the 40th LD to the capitol!
