WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) released the below statement after supporting a short-term increase in the debt limit. The short-term increase passed the House by a final vote of 219 to 206.

“Addressing the debt limit is not about future spending. It is about meeting obligations the federal government has already made,” said Larsen. “Today, I supported a short-term increase in the debt limit to meet those obligations and keep economic recovery on track while Congress works to advance priorities that create jobs, drive long-term economic growth and deliver the critical resources needed to fight climate change. I also support Rep. Bill Foster’s legislation to get rid of the debt ceiling and end the unnecessary brinksmanship that puts the full faith and credit of the United States at risk while having no impact on reducing spending.”
