There is still time to sign up for the Saturday, April 17th Rehab Green seminar being held at the Grange Hall on San Juan Island.

The workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is sponsored by the Town of Friday Harbor.

The event’s speakers will address historic preservation, weatherization and sustainable rehabilitation of residential and commercial buildings 30 or more years old.

Following registration, the first session will discuss “Sustainable ‘Green’ Rehabilitation and Historic Preservation: oxymoron or practical strategy?”

The second session, from 10 a.m. to noon, breaks down into presentations on Historically Sensitive Green Rehab, including heat, air, moisture, heat loss, insulation, ventilation, air flow, water efficiency and light.

After a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m., “Dollars and Sense I: Practical Rehab Strategies” will be reviewed until 2 p.m. This presentation will include an overview of existing building strategies, tools and other practical resources to successfully achieve high performance buildings, and top remodeling tips for residential and light commercial buildings.

“Reality Check: Applying ‘Sustainability’ to Your Historic Rehab” takes place from 2 to 3 p.m., giving seminar participants the opportunity to pose questions and comments to a panel of experts. This panel is composed of:

The final session, from 3:15 to 5 p.m. is titled, “Dollars and Sense II: Energy Audits, Rebate Programs and other Incentives.” Presenters at this discussion are:
