Increase your birding skills through field trips and presentations! This year’s Winter Birding Workshop, a collaboration with The Whale Museum and San Juan Islands Audubon, will take place the weekend of March 8-10, 2024.

This workshop is ideal for those wishing to continue their education as a naturalist or for those who simply love birds! In this course, participants will have great opportunities to learn about identifying birds in their winter plumage, groups and species of birds, their needs, behaviors, and habitats, as well as migration and population patterns via hands on field experience and classroom learning. San Juan Islands Audubon President and birding expert Barbara Jensen will lead us through the course, which includes classroom sessions and field trips on San Juan Island.

Course begins on Friday evening, March 8 and will be full days on March 9 and 10 (approximately 8am-4pm). Class is limited to 13 participants and will take place at The Whale Museum and various sites on San Juan Island. Lectures, class materials and transportation to field sites from The Whale Museum, refreshments on the 8th, as well as light breakfast foods and lunches on the 9th and 10th are included in the tuition cost. If needed, you are responsible for your own transportation and lodging if traveling to San Juan Island.
