Everyone is invited to attend a Red Cedar Circle event at the Odd Fellows Hall beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26.
The Red Cedar Circle was started about 25 years ago by a Northwest Coast Native American, Johnny Moses. Johnny is intending to come to this gathering and he usually shares traditional songs and stories that he has been asked to carry by his Elders. Johnny, or Whistemanee (Walking Medicine Robe), is internationally known as a storyteller, teacher, and Medicine Person; he speaks seven Native American languages.
As we say in the Red Cedar Circle: “everyone with an open heart is welcome.” There will be various ceremonies throughout the day and into the evening on Saturday and on Sunday.
On Saturday at 3 p.m. there is a separate event that is unexpectedly and fortuitously occurring. The film [intlink id=”11351″ type=”post”]”Finding Our Way”[/intlink] is being shown and is cosponsored by OPAL Community Land Trust, The Orcas Island Council of Churches, and the Odd Fellows. This is a film that explores historical and contemporary perspectives of North American Indian/First Nations Culture and focuses on a particular First Nations community.
