Orcas Island Elementary School joins a national movement as it celebrates Read Across America on Monday, March 2.
Timed to coincide with Dr. Seuss’ birthday, this annual event, sponsored by the National Education Association, is a great opportunity to bring your favorite book(s) to school and read to a class (of your choosing, or otherwise) for a few minutes — or even just to spend some extra time reading at home to your child(ren).
If you can volunteer by reading at the elementary school for a few minutes on Monday, March 2, between 8:30 and 3 p.m.call Susan Stolmeier, the school’s Reading Specialist, at 376-2286 (office) or 376-4654 (home), or email her at sstolmeier@orcas.k12.wa.us.
Let Susan know the age that best suits you and she will arrange a time to read. “You are helping children value and see see how beneficial being a life-long reader can be,” says Stolmeier.
