Carol Sutton was inspired to raise funds to help with Jordan Griffin's desire to enjoy snow sports. Any additional funds will go towards his medical needs.

Orcas Quilter and businesswoman Carol Sutton saw a way to help Jordan Griffin, an Orcas youth injured in a snowboard accident in December 2008, and plunged ahead.

She arranged for a fellow quilter, Jeanne Okuniewicz, to donate a quilt. She connectd with Community Foundation Director Hilary Canty for a raffle ticket model. She arranged dates for raffle tickets to be sold at Island Market. She set up a bank account at Islanders Bank. She spoke to the Orcas High School service group, Key Club, to arrange for volunteers to man the raffle table at Island Market.  And she gave her husband, Ed Sutton the honeydew (“Honey, do!) opportunity to bring the raffle quilt, tickets and table to Island Market on the scheduled days of raffle ticket sales.

Tickets are also being sold at Island Market Saturday, March 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, April 3rd from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 10th from 10 a.m. to  2 p.m.

Raffle tickets are also sold at Rainbow Services, Woods Cove, Mandy’s and Darvill’s Book Store.  During the week the quilt is on display at Rainbow Services.

All donations collected will be given to Jordan Griffin to help purchase the bi-ski that enables him again to enjoy snow sports.

Sutton, whose business, Rainbow Services, operates out of the “mall” near the north end of downtown Eastsound (Look west off North Beach Road for the big yellow pencil) has never undertaken a community benefit raffle before.

Pretty good for a rookie.
