Andy Martin threw the first fistful of powder into the air, and with an eruption of anticipatory laughter, everyone followed, disappearing into a giant rainbow haze. For a moment no one could see a thing, and then like a curtain rising on a stage of a scene that is already in progress, the wind blew away the haze, and the spectacle that presented itself was truly wonderful.
At 3 p.m.-ish (Orcas time), on Saturday, May 10, nearly 80 participants and spectators showed up to the Waterfront Park in Eastsound, to celebrate the 1st Annual Festival of Colors. Referred to as Holi, The Festival of Colors is an annual Hindu Holiday, which celebrates spring, and indulging in pure merrymaking.
The Festival was sponsored by The Barnacle, The Golden Tree Hostel, Hogstone Woodfired Pizza, Flyin’ Hawaiian Sushi, Island Hoppin’ Brewery, Cascadia Garden Supply, and Andy and the Outernauts.
