This month’s Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) meeting will feature a forum for the Orcas Island School District Board Candidates in this November’s election. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the school library on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The candidates are: Jim Sullivan and Chris Sutton (Candidates for Position #1); Robert Connell and Tony Ghazel (Candidates for Position #2); and Scott Lancaster (Unopposed Candidate for Position #3).
After a few minutes of mandatory business, the meeting will proceed with the candidates’ forum. Marta Nielson, Director of Orcas Island Prevention Partnership (OIPP) will moderate the event.
Written questions for the candidates will be accepted at the forum; there will also be paper on hand to write down questions prior to the event. Marta will attempt to ask as many of the questions as possible, but will also attempt not to ask questions which are repetitive of earlier ones.
PTSA President Barb Skotte said, “The PTSA would like to acknowledge that our school board members are unpaid volunteers who spend many hours working for the betterment of our schools. We owe them a debt of gratitude and thank, wholeheartedly, each of the candidates for their willingness not only to participate in our forum, but to serve the district if elected.”
