Because a happy community is a happy airport

||| FROM JEANNIE SHARPE for PORT OF ORCAS |||

After a noise/low flight complaint [yesterday], and many others recently, I’ve decided to email a friendly reminder about flights in Crow Valley and other parts of the island.  Please fly 1500’ AGL over the island, weather and safety permitting. NoiseAbatementBrochure HERE.)

When departing to the Southwest for Crow Valley hold runway heading until 1100’ before you make the turn and continue to climb, this will help to keep the noise down and it is a neighborly thing to do. With Summer in full swing there are outdoor events that are being overwhelmed by airplane noise.
I would also like to remind pilots when departing to please hold runway heading until they are past Madrona Point, Parker Reef or 1100’ AGL before crosswind turns. Several complaints are coming in about flying over the marina and town after take off.

When arriving into Orcas from the South, please stay over the water for your approach. Please help and do your part, because a happy community is a happy airport.
