Moonrise on Saturday, March 19, as photographed by Damien Stark.

The perigee moon witnessed last night is about 30 percent brighter than usual, because the moon’s path is closest to the earth, as opposed to the apogee. The last perigee moon occurred in 1993.

Island photographer Damien Stark took this photo at the Outlook Inn in Eastsound.
